What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a branch of healthcare based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system.  At the heart of the chiropractic philosophy is to treat the cause rather than the symptoms.  If you simply treat the symptoms, the underlying problem is still there and will continue to aggravate the condition and sometimes increase in severity.

Chiropractic physicians "look to the spine" to affect the nervous system which in turn controls all parts of the body including our muscles.  For example, when you experience muscle pain or sharp pain down the leg, we will perform a thorough examination to check the spine and first remove any misalignments which might be interfering with your body's ability to function at its optimum.  Next, our focus can turn towards adjunctive therapies such as physical therapy, rehabilitation, massage therapy, and acupuncture to further alleviate the condition.

Dr. Nguyen believes that your can benefit patients best when you focus on each as an individual with a specific health concern.  She uses a variety of techniques to provide individualized care and comfort for the patients.  The techniques include:

Manual Diversified - traditional method using the hands to deliver an adjustment to the spine and appendicular skeleton

Activator - the adjustment is delivered using a specialized instrument that allows for a comfortable, mechanically-assisted force without the "popping" sound; commonly used for children and elderly, pubic symphysis, or extremity adjustment

Thompson - an adjustment is delivered using a specialized drop-assisted table; commonly used for pelvic and sacral adjustments where rotation of the lower spine is painful

Craniosacral Therapy - light pressure is applied to the cranial bones to relieve pressure caused by some overlap of the sutures. This allows cerebrospinal fluid to flow freely from the cranium to the sacrum

Webster Technique - a specific chiropractic adjustment which focuses on establishing balance in a pregnant women's pelvis and reduce undue stress to the uterus and supporting ligaments.   This balanced state allows for optimal fetal positioning and ease of labor.
